Community Guidelines and Access

Ensuring safety is a collective endeavor. Attendees are asked to help create an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued, and to conduct themselves in a manner that does not place fellow attendees at risk of harm, discomfort, or exclusion. Actions, behavior, or conduct that endanger, intimidate, harass, or otherwise compromise the well-being of others will not be tolerated.

During the gathering, you may hear ideas and opinions that differ from your own views. We ask that you embrace a mindset of listening and curiosity in instances where you come across something you disagree with or do not know about. Special thanks to Set Hernandez for sharing language and resources to inform these guidelines.

To report a safety concern, email assembly@unitedstatesartists.org or call 312-470-6325.

Access is important to us. We have strived to create a space in consideration of allergies, disabilities, neurodivergence, and additional access needs. CART captioning will be provided during the general sessions. ASL and large print materials will be provided at the general sessions and select breakout sessions where we have received advance notice. There is reserved seating in all spaces for those who need to be close to the speakers and/or interpreters. There is a dedicated quiet lounge on Tuesday from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM in Club B10.

All galleries and facilities within MASS MoCA are wheelchair-accessible. Outdoor spaces offer wheelchair-accessible paths that are open seasonally. Manual wheelchairs are available in the lobby, free of charge, on a first come, first served basis. We also welcome your personal manual or motorized wheelchairs, walkers, or scooters. There are places to sit and rest throughout the galleries. ADA service animals are permitted.

MASS MoCA’s exhibitions offer large-print wall text introductions, QR codes for mobile access to exhibition brochures, and knowledgeable museum attendants are available in each

gallery to answer any questions. Museum staff can also suggest accessible routes and notify guests of any spaces with low-level lighting.

Please ask a staff member if you have accessibility questions or requests, or email assembly@unitedstatesartists.org.

For everyone’s health and safety, please stay home if you are sick and notify assembly@unitedstatesartists.org that you are unable to attend. Any health precautions that attendees wish to take individually are welcome, including masking, testing, and distancing. We will not be requiring masking for participants, but masks will be available at registration and the hospitality desk throughout the gathering.

If you become ill during Assembly, please notify assembly@unitedstatesartists.org and self-isolate in your hotel room. Thank you for helping us keep each other safe!

MASS MoCA is a smoke-free campus under Massachusetts law. It is vital that we comply with the law and our “all-campus” policy. Off-site smoking locations include Marshall Street. Smoking and/or vaping inside the buildings is strictly prohibited.
